In 2015, in recognition of the under-representation of women on international arbitral tribunals, the members of the arbitration community drew up a pledge to take action.
Earlier this year, the New Zealand International Arbitration Centre (NZIAC) announced that, in the two years since it signed the pledge, that it – together with its related domestic registry services – have across the board appointed women as arbitrator or adjudicator in 43% of cases administered through those registries.
Building on this achievement, and as part of the AMINZ Arbitration Day conference, AWLA, together with Bell Gully and NZIAC, warmly invites you to a breakfast panel event to discuss how we can all take action to encourage and enable the equal participation of women in arbitration both domestically and internationally - whether as arbitrators or counsel.
Our panellists are:
- Catherine Green – Executive Director of NZIAC and its related domestic registries (NZDRC, BDT, and the FDR Centre), Barrister, Arbitrator, Mediator, and Adjudicator.
- Royden Hindle – President of AMINZ, Barrister at Bankside Chambers, Arbitrator, Mediator, and Adjudicator.
- Dr Anna Kirk – Barrister at Bankside Chambers, Arbitrator, and Adjudicator.
- Sophie East – Partner at Bell Gully specialising in commercial litigation and arbitration, AMINZ Council Member
This event is open to all practitioners interested in Arbitration whether they are attending the AMINZ Arbitration Day or not. Further information about the Arbitration Day can be found HERE, and when you register for the AWLA breakfast, you can register for AMINZ Arbitration Day, (1 November), at AMINZ member rates.
